I think I'm going with the Poke weed. That seems to be the consenses on Dave's garden too.
School started here on Wednesday. What's with that? I have no idea. So most of the neighbor kids are in school all day. But the grade school lets out at 2:30 so Kaden will still be able to play with them in the afternoon.
Here he is with the two youngest grands from next door. They like to come in our house and play with the brio trains.
I'm going to go to Kaden's aunt's first birthday party tonight. Yup, that's right. Susan turns one today! Sam's only sibling. I'll post pictures of the kids. None of the Amish kids mind having their pictures taken. Some of the adults don't mind either, but you have to be careful and always ask first. Katie never seems to mind, but Merl did - which was his choice. Only, now that he's gone, Katie is craving any remembrance of him that we managed to get. I did get a couple at the wedding reception, accidentally while I was taking pictures of other people.
So I'm going to make a big fruit salad so I'll have at least one thing I can eat there. I think I've mentioned before how badly this particular order of Amish eat - very heavy on starches, sugars, cheeses, etc. Not a healthy vegetable to be seen! LOL. Except I'm serious.

Poke weed it is. Yeah, I always thought the Amish ate all these fresh/canned veggies guess not with this group. enjoy your fruit salad.
Happy Birthday to Susan! It doesn't seem like it was that long ago. It's a good thing he Merl was in a few pix.
Ours grow lots of veggies but don't think they cook them healthy when they have them. They can a lot too. I have always heard that Amish cooking was wonderful but these around here aren't good bakers etc. They sell pies and cookies out of the buggies and at first everyone wanted them but then when they tasted them most got thrown out. Wonder if it is certain groups or what that cook differently?
Have fun!
I think we must have a few amish communitites around the boarders michigan leeding into indiana. the life of simple they lead. but eating heavy starches lead to a not so healthy heart. is poke weed like a poke salad? all schools should start after labor day when at least the heat of the summer is not as hot.
yup, i know
Yes, Lilly will be at Ryan's wedding. That's great that you and Dave are able to come. We'll see you in a few weeks!
I would of thought that the Armish would live off the land so have plenty of vegs etc. There is a big gap between the children for your daughters MIL
I will be looking forward to seeing the pictures.
RYC: Yes, husband was using the edger on the lawn and instead of pointing it away from the house (duh!) he was facing the house and a stone hit the door.
We are not turning it into the home insurance because filing a claim for such a small thing makes your rates go up and besides...we get a 5% return on our premium if there are not claims filed within the premium year.
Since there won't be any Amish reading this, I guess I won't be hurting any feelings when I say that the Mennonites are much better cooks than the Amish. The last time we bought an Amish pie when we were on the road in KY, it was pretty bad. Your great grandmother was a fantastic cook and she cooked in the Mennonite tradition. Although there was a lot of good yummy stick-to-the-ribs comfort food(i.e. starchy stuff. Best cookies pies and bread...how well I remember)
I can't believe how much Kaden is changing....just from last March.
