Happy Mother's Day mom.
I know you'll be up, walking and healed faster than we can blink.
I love you.
I thought I'd post pictures of the 75th anniversary celebration of the Ladies of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College, which took place on Saturday.
I should also mention that my mom is doing great at rehab. She's working hard at all the things she has to relearn with walking, etc.
One of the vintage clothing displays. This coat belongs to my sisterinlaw who passed it on to Michelle. It dates from the late 60's.
A poodle skirt!
A local baker did the cake - we think she did a fabulous job.
My aunt and my daughter came to the lunch.
The centerpiece.
Tomorrow I'll post about the trip to the tulip festival.
I just talked to mom. She sounds really alert. She's been sitting up in a chair and even took a few steps already. She had some pretty bad oatmeal for breakfast and was complaining about that. Food should improve once she's able to make her own choices. Dad spent most of the night with her, but went home about 6 this morning to take care of the cats and rest for a bit. He was there at 9, so it must not have been a very long rest!
Thanks for all your prayers - she's really feeling their effects!
My mom is undergoing surgery to replace her left hip right now. We'd appreciate your prayers. I'll post later once I hear how it went.
EDIT:
Mom's in a hospital room now. The surgery went very well. The hip was worse off than the dr even thought, but it's brand new now - she'll be the bionic woman! She sounded pretty groggy, but the fact I was even able to talk to her over the phone is something! Keep those prayers going - she's seeing the benefits!
I was telling coolmom56 about my pots, so I have to share them with the rest of you.
We learned to do this in garden club and I'm hooked! So is Michelle!
This was my first one, done at garden club.
This one was done there too, for my aunt Em.
Then I did this one for my neighbor, June.
And this one for neighbor Diane.
So much fun!
*edit*
You want directions? Sorry, I should have posted that at the same time.
Take a terra cotta pot. You can paint it using outdoor acrylic paint if you desire. That's what I did.
Then you apply things to the dried painted pot using modpodge glue. The first two examples used napkins, in which I cut around the designs and peeled back the napkin to only the very top thin layer than has the design. Since the napkin is so thin it's easier to apply the glue to the pot and not the design. You can modpodge lightly over that once all the decorations are in place. The other two examples use stickers, which are actually much easier.
Once the top layer of modpodge is dried apply a terra cotta sealer. We couldn't find that, so we used a general sealer, which bubbled. So I'm going to make a bigger effort to find the right stuff!
I think it's really funny that my one line blog generated more responsed than what I've received in a long while. LOL.
Xango took forever to get these videos postable. These are some videos we took of the kids while we were in Orlando.
Kaden really liked playing the bongos in Animal Kingdom.
But he liked the water even more!
And Skyler gets wherever he wants to get now! There is one where he's crawling around with a boat, and that what I'd thought I'd uploaded. I'll have to find that one.
Just got back from a week in Florida. The highlight was a day at the Animal Kingdom with the grandkids!
Kaden had a blast getting soaked!
And seeing the animals.
Michelle and Sam are ready to be soaked too
Michelle took most of the disney shots so I have to wait for her camera. We used my camera at Ruby Falls.
Kaden got to run around the playyard before the long trip back home. We got home around midnight last night. Whew! I'm beat!
I attended the Chicago Garden Show at Navy Pier with my cousin on Monday. We had a fabulous time. All those gorgeous blooms and smells.
Deep breathes along with me and smell those scents:
Isn't this fun?
How'd you like to sleep under this quilt?
There were coleus in every shade and size.
New varieties of snapdragons and geraniums are on our wish list.
I love the riot of color.
We walked a lot. We should have worn a pedometer just to see how many steps we actually took. I was quite sore on Tuesday.
This was a really cool Mexican themed garden. I entered the drawing for the trip to Mexico. Hey, you can't win if you don't enter!!!!
Look closely and you'll see the bronze statue of the children reading.
Skyler is trying really hard these days to travel.
Things are going fine here.
Yesterday was gorgeous - a really nice taste of spring. Kaden ran around with the neighbor kids all afternoon. He came in around 5, went downstairs to watch some Sprout TV and crashed on the couch as soon as he had his blanket in hand.
We're going to our favorite deep-dish pizza place tonight - actually the only one we know of here. Guess we're not in Chicago anymore! We can't understand why they don't franchise one of the more popular chains here since so many ND students are from Chicago!
I was able to get into my mid-size jeans this week - the wii fit is really starting to make a difference. I'm hoping by summer to get into the skinny clothes again. Maybe if I keep up with the wii fit I' won't regress again. One can only hope. Losing weight and keeping it off is so much harder than just allowing oneself to pack on the pounds. Life just isn't fair!!!!
