  • Guess what fun thing I did today?  You'll all be so jealous.  Don't you just hate it when people use these blogs to brag on their exciting lives?

    Do you think I

    A) shopped at the outlet mall and got me a great new outfit from Liz Claiborne

    B) drove by the local Toyota dealer and traded in the '00 van for a new model with totally fold-down seats?

    C) hired a landscape architect to totally redo my yard before the wedding, installing a pond, and gazebo and a rose arbor?

    D) drove up to the winery north of Niles and feasted on their fabulous pecan/crusted raspberry chicken

    E) went to high tea with three of my bestest friends and wore my favorite tea hat

    F) had a colonoscopy

    G)  took Kaden to the zoo for the first time to enjoy his reaction to the animals

    H) went on a picnic with the fan club next door

    I) took the train into Chicago to see the new Tut exhibit

    H) drove up to South Haven with the kids to watch Kaden enjoy the beach

If you guessed F you win the prize.

Last night was even more fun than today.  I threw up most of the luscious gallon of fluid that's a required part of the festivities.  But, even so, got enough down that the doctor was able to successfully look into my colon.  He didn't find any polyps or cancer, praise the Lord!  But, since the other reason that I had the procedure done, other than it's a typical part of the age-50 rite of passage, is that I've been having diarrhea daily for the past few weeks.  I know.  TMI.  So he did do a biopsy and then, and here's the stinker (no pun intended) I have to go on a Low Fructose Diet for the next two weeks.  And right before I go away on my week-long girly trip with Sue.

These are the things I can't eat:

    fruit

    fruit juice

    sweet potatoes

winter squash (what a hardship )

Beans (except green)  (I'm glad I can still eat green beans - geesh!)

    Honey

Maple syrup (no pancakes or waffles on the trip)

    jam/jellies

    nut preserves

    soda pop (diet or regular)

processed meats with sugar (i.e. ham, bacon, lunch meats, hot dogs)

any DESSERTS (waaaaaaa ) containing sugar or high fructose corn syrup

no dairy products (except plain lowfat yogurt - which only tastes palatable if you can add jam to it, which I won't be able to do)

    any sugar substitutes

If I don't come back from this trip thinner I'll have to kill someone.  Maybe the doctor?  Now I have to get online and see what that leaves!

I can't leave you on that negative note, so here are some adorable pictures of my favorite grandson.

Michelle's in one of her Amish dresses (Kaden is wearing Amish too) while they are in amishland at grandma Katie's house.

All clean and wrapped up to go.

Who is that cute baby on the other side of the mirror?

    Yup, that one!

This book is laugh-out-loud funny, poignant and true!

  • He's starting to notice things now!!!  I love that stage when they're discovering all the things around them.

Hope you have fun on your trip in spite of not being able to eat much!

  • I was going to guess all of the above....Is this new diet forever or just for a while?  Geesh...I think that leaves water *L*

Ryn:  4 yrs...not 9, yet.  Hopefully I'll still be celebrating in 5 more though!

  • Been there.....done that with both things.  I am suppose to stay on the diet with the program I'm on.  I am going to do it with the cleanse when we get home from the trip.  If I stay on it a week with the cleanse maybe I can do better from then on.  I've got to lose the rest of this weight and when I do I'm getting all this flab removed.  I could get in so many things if didn't have this flab.  I got an outfit today that I'm going to try with a "shaping" pantie and see if it does enough good that I look okay in it.  Ran into a sale with 50% off the lowest marked price.  Got 2 pr capris for the trip and a top to go with one pr. and this "city" summer slack outfit.  I told the gal I was going to bring it home and try it with jewerly etc.  Not a color I normally buy but looked pretty good IF I can get the control panty to deal with the flab!  Sigh!

  • You can't have FRUIT!!!!  Is it blueberry season up there yet?  Well, those are easily frozen.  You can eat fruit by the time the peaches are ripe!  So, what are you eating next week?  Yogurt?  Tofu? Oatmeal...Sugar free yogurt, of course.(yuk)  What will you have on the toast?  Nut preserves???  like in peanut butter?

In less than 4 weeks, I'll see Kaden.

  • oh dear Val!  better you than me!!! LOL

Kaden is getting so much cuter!  love the way he's staring at that "baby" beside him!

Praise the LORD for your good prognosis though
Have a great day and God bless you all!(((HUGS)))

  • Cheese. I don't see cheese on the list. and crackers. two of my favorite things... and tuna, and salad with oil and vinegar.

congratulations on surviving the test. Yuck. I would so be barfing that sodium phosphate too. disgusting. it has to be worse than barium... even berry flavor.

Now, do all of that other stuff on the list, except I wouldn't get a Toyota.

  • oh mom.........glad everything went well. wanna go on a diet with me?? YOU CAN DO IT MOM!!

    LOVE YOU!

  • Slap me. I'm complaining about a scapeled toe and you had a tube stuck up your butt.  You win. Your life is definitely more exciting.  So sorry about the diet.  I'm supposed to eat well due to diabetes and I totally stink at it.  I just made sugared strawberries for shortcake.  My dr. would have a heart attack.  If I followed his plan I would have to kill him too.  And probably hubby just because he was close.  I hope that after two weeks every thing will be resolved and you can at least eat some fruit and beans (other than green)!

  • I knew it had to be "F", because it was the only NOT fun thing to do.  And here you will be in Wisconsin---the cheese and bratwurst state, and it sounds as though you won't be able to partake!  Bummer!  Don't know if brats have sugar in them or not--don't think so.  Hope that by doing this the Dr. will figure out what the problem is.

The pics are adorable.  It is funny the way babies like to watch themselves in the mirror.  Always wonder what is going through their minds then!

  • Not a fun procedure in the least. I am glad it was not cancer or anything. The diet does not sound good, but you will find your energy go up. Kaden is a doll, I love the picture of him noticing himself in the mirror.

  • Oh gosh, no cheese, right.
Well, this is a crazy drastic elimination diet.

My medical guess would be the weather... the heat. Many people get diarrhea in summer. I hope you survive the diet. Wow, I would go crazy.

have a fun week-end girly trip

  • I never had a colonoscopy and I should but just haven't. My insurance sucks with a 2500.00 deductible, so it's not condusive to get motivation for doctor appoitments. Have had to drink the party fluid for other stuff a few years ago and I feel for you there. (ugh)

Those pics are adorable! He's a handsome lil dude.

I like yogurt with granola--that makes it tatse better for me. And try powdered sugar on pancakes or waffles. I think it tatses good. *hugs*

  • I hope you get to do the other 9 things soon. They sound a lot more fun

  • I guessed "F".  It just didn't fit the list.  If the prize is a colonoscopy, no thanks.

    xoxoxo

  • Sugar substitutes ..as in the sugar-free candy etc.  is a definite contributor to gastro-intestinal distress!  I know this from unhappy experience.  Splenda seems ok(I guess)  Maybe all of us should diet together.  But, I hope it doesn't have to be that restrictive when I get up there.

  • This is a bummer.  But at least it won't affect our scrapbooking, that wasn't on the list!  My guess is a little too much stress in your life, that's why we're having our girlie week right!?

We'll find some good stuff we can eat and maybe we'll both lose weight, heaven knows I could stand to lose a few pounds.  I won't miss the diet soda since I "gave it up for lent."  I've only had a little bit and my digestion has improved.  I know TMI.

  • Welcome to my world! Done the diet. It works. I had 2 done in one month recently.  Ask for the pills next time.  My dr gives me a choice of drinking the 7up tasting stuff or taking 4 pills every 15 minutes for an hour.  That was a lot easier. my biopsy came back pre-cancer so now I have to have one every year. What a thing to look forward to every springtime.

  • EW about the diet etc..... yay about the Kaden pics!

  • I can't even comment on the diet--you know that I'd starve!

That baby looks like he'll be outgrowing the bathtub soon!

  • I had the same experience earlier this year when I had my colonscopy procedure.  the prep stuff is just terrible.  I am going to ask for pills next time...

Kaden is adorable, as always, what a charmer he is going to be.

  • RYC:  Ken doesn't know anything about internet stalkers and such.  I just can't seem to go anywhere without him tagging along.  I think he is afraid he will miss something!  lol.   It is tough when I have to so some serious shopping, though.  And I don't have the heart to tell him I don't want him along, because he would never say that to me.  We shall just see what happens!

  • RYQ: http://picasa.google.com/  I edit the pics from there also.

  • This was such a funny post! The second I read "F" I knew that was it. OY! I can't believe the dr said you couldn't eat all those things! WHAT??? GAHHH!!! I think he needs a bop in the head anyway.

    Kaden, as always is adorable!
