    Kaden loves to fly!

I'm going to try to wean myself from the computer.  I've been spending far too much time here this summer, zoning out.  It's my escape vehicle.  Not so much xanga, as the stupid yahoo games!

I'm starting a counted cross stitch project - making a Christmas stocking for Sam.  Michelle is making one for Kaden.  Hers is a basic one - fill in the spaces with one color.  Nice for a beginner.  But me, oh no, I have to do one that has 50 different colors and some metallic thread blending.  I was a champion cross stitcher but gave it up about 12 years ago when my wrist went numb all the time.  I thought I had carpel tunnel, but I got tested for that this year when my thumb started acting wacky, and turns out, I don't have it.  So I thought, I can do this.

What I failed to consider was my eyes.  I WANT MY OLD EYES BACK!!!!  It's not the nearsightedness - I've been extremely nearsided since I was a kid (600 - 700 range) and that's an OK thing for close work.  Close stuff I can see.  But, apparently, my focusing abilities have deteriorated and I'm having a time seeing the stupid chart.  I have to get to a color printer and have it magnified so I can tell the difference between all the little symbols.  Sigh.  Why do I get myself into this stuff?

But the good news is my sub job for Friday got canceled so I can now spend the day with my mil, and the little family.  Mom is coming here tomorrow and will stay until sometime after church on Sunday.  We've been trying to get her to come and now she is.  I had a sub job scheduled before I knew she was coming, but today I got word that it was canceled.  So mil and Sam really want to see the ND campus - that'll be fun on Friday when so many people will be around before the big game - ND vs UofMichigan!  Whoot whoot.

So if you have any advice of how to do close needle work with menopausal eyes, let me know the secret!

For lots of laughs, read a Dortmunder novel by Donald Westlake.  I love these characters.  They always make me laugh out loud.  The funniest book I've ever read is "Dancing Aztecs" by that author.

    Hugs.

  • You must be kidding.! How can you say you spent too much time on the computer last summer?. You were busy 24/7(practically) planning for the wedding reception.  You deserve to relax.  I find being at the computer relaxing.

How 'bout magnifiers?  Would that help?

I love the picture of that precious boy!!!

  • If it's not our aches and pains then it is our eyes.....what I wouldn 't give to go back a few years and do it over ....

  • I hear you with the eyes... i had to get magnifyiny glasses for some of my work.... and if you don't play games the coomputer time is good.. after all you need to communicate with the rest of the world and share that adorable Kaden... it would be wrong to deprive us...

  • I'm being force weaned from it.  Which is a good thing.  Those games are too addictive.  I do mis our IM chats!  Hopefully I'll catch you sometime soon.

  • When I read you wanted to wean yourself from the computer, I thought Xanga was losing you!!  Thank goodness that is not so!

Chuckle over the eye thing.  You are developing "senior" eyes.  My glasses are blended for near and far.  I am nearsighted, too, but in the last few years my near vision is getting worse, and my far vision is better.  The eye Dr. said that is what happens with "age"!!!

That is good that you can spend your time with your mil instead of subbing.  Have a great time with her!!

  • P.S.  The problem with babies "flying", is that they drool, and it is usually in your face!  lol

  • RYC- Yes it was a blessing... my 20is a blessing in himself.. he's so helpful and thoughtful...rarely complains... just lucky all around...

  • I have NO great idea or wisdom on your eye focusing problem, BUT, I was thinking (yea, I know.....oh no!), if they have large print in books for old eyes like yours, why not cross stitch patterns with large print.  I can just picture that Christmas sock....big enough to park a truck in it!!  Enjoy your endeavor....is this for this Christmas or what??!!  LOVE YOU CUZ (could you read that okay?!)  Love you.....Sandy P.

  • Kaden is so cute. I am glad I am not the only one who plays yahoo games. I have all these things to do around me and I am playing a game, oh well hehe. I am glad you get to spend time with your family. I think there is a magnified that you can have either on you or near you on a stand. Then that keeps your hands free to do your needle work, but then you can see better. I know I am picking up my new glasses tomorrow, hehe.

  • I'm nearsighted as a bat also-lol. When I read, I prefer to read without my glasses and hold the book close. If I wear my contacts, I need reading glasses.  Used to do a lot of cross stitch, so I understand your dilema in focusing. I guess it's just an age (YIKES) thing. I want my old sight back also! Have you tried those lit magnifying things? I've seen them and they look like they'd work well. *hugs*

  • I am just glad I can still read on the computer... sorry, I know it does not help...

  • I've almost completely given up on the counted cross stitch..I just can't focus that well anymore...and I have a million little stamped things that I just can't seem to get into...It's a winter thing for me I guess.

Kaden is growing so fast!  What a sweetie!

  • No weaning allowed. You must stay!!!

Just little old me saying hi to my beautiful 'sis'.

  • Oh, Val, I've been sitting in the car while on vacation trying to read maps and directions for Scott. I slide reading glasses on and off over my sunglasses, or keep trading back and forth between them. It is a royal pain. Today we both tried to read a road name on the Memphis map and neither one could do it. We found the road--some of the letters were readable! If I would give up contacts and wear bifocals, I'd be OK, but I refuse to do that.

  • I use to love to do cross stitch and have some really nice framed pieces in the house from that time.  Now between the eyes and the hands can't do it anymore.  Still have Sydney's baby quilt to do.  Poor thing she is the only one of the 6 without one.  Maybe I can hire it done????????  It is a stamped pattern so I really don't have too much excuse.

Enjoy your time with family and mil.  What are Sam and Michelle doing now for jobs?  Don't know that you have ever said or if you did I missed it.

  • for those eyes? An "Ott light"( http://www.ott-lite.com/ ) and one of those big magnifying glasses for doing crafts. I think some of the otts have a built in magnifier lens.
