I said I'd do this one, so here goes.
1. Who was your first prom date?
Al. We actually went dutch because I was dating a sophomore at the time (I was a senior) and he couldn't go because it was the senior prom. So, since I was a senior and didn't want to miss my prom, I asked a good friend to go dutch with me. He did, then we dated the rest of that summer until we left for different colleges. Actually, I found a boyfriend right away on campus and Al didn't, so he thought we were still going out even though I wasn't. It was really hard to break it to him when I saw him at Thanksgiving.
2. Who was your first roommate?
I didn't have to share a room until I went away to college. I got assigned to a "triple" with two incoming upperclasswomen - Jane and Mary. Jane was a transfer junior who I had nothing in common with except our faith, and Mary was a transfer sophomore who I didn't even have faith in common with. We got through that year, but I never see either one of them. Sometimes I see Mary at reunions since I graduated in her year, not in mine. That bothered me for a long time until I got the college to change my class year to when I should have graduated, not the year earlier when I actually did graduate. And since Dave is in the other year, we get to go two years in a row to college reunions. It's more fun that way. Speaking of which, our 30th reunion is in May, the same weekend that Ken will graduate. We'll be the really proud reunion couple!
3. What alcoholic beverage did you first drink?
My parents let me taste alcohol from the time I was little. I never liked it. My first drink that they don't know about (don't read this mom) was at the rehersal dinner for my cousin - I was the musician - and I had a drambuie. Ouch. I slipped home and went right to bed.
4. What was your first job?
Babysitting. I didn't really work at a real job until I went to college because my parents paid me to do all the housework while my mom worked. So my first real job was dishcrew at college, a position I held all three years. My senior year I was the manager. Got to hire and fire and schedule.
5. What was your first car?
I didn't get a car until I married - Dave bought a used 1972 Ford Pinto the summer that we got married. It was a stick so my mother-in-law had to teach me to drive it. I actually didn't get my drivers license until I was 20. My younger brother ended up teaching me since my dad stressed me out too much when I took the class during summer school when I was 16. I went driving with dad that summer and the first time I did something that made him nervous he made me stop the car and he took over. So we never went again.
6. When did you go to your first funeral?
I was 14 when my paternal grandmother died. My maternal grandfather died when I was 5 so my brother and I were deemed too young to attend.
7. Who was your first love?
My first love was Kenny White - we were both in third grade. We used to hold hands during Sunday School. He was a special guy. He moved to Pennsylvania in junior high, after I moved back to where he was. It was not meant to be!
8. Who was your first grade teacher?
Mrs ???? I really don't remember her name. I remember she brought her daughters to class one day - they were big kids and I was impressed!
9. Where did you go on your first ride on an airplane?
I believe my first airplane ride was from Grand Rapids to Cleveland, coming home after my first semester away at college.
10. When you snuck out of your house for the first time, who was it to see?
I was the good kid in the family. Not only did I never sneak out, I never even considered it. My parents had to have one child they didn't lose sleep over!
11. Who was your first best friend and are you still friends with them?
Nancy. Yes. She was one of the women who drove in to help me with the wedding reception. We met our first year of high school, in math class (of course!). She was my maid of honor and I was her matron of honor in her first wedding.
12. Where was your first sleepover?
Probably Wendy's. In fifth grade. No, that's not right. I had one when we lived in Atlanta when I was in 4th grade, only I don't remember her name. I do remember being so surprised when she told me that she'd never ridden on a bus before.
13. Who is the first person you call when you have a bad day?
I don't call. I blog.
14. Whose wedding were you in the first time?
I played the harp at my cousin Dawn's wedding. See #3. Then I stood with Nancy at her wedding. And I played the harp at my cousin Ron's wedding.
15. What is the first thing you do in the morning
Other than the obvious. If I'm subbing, I take a shower. If not, I head downstairs and have my tea while I check xanga.
16. What was the first concert you ever went to?
Dave Brubeck. He performed at college. I had to leave the auditorium because I couldn't take the driving bass.
17. First tattoo or piercing?
I got my ears pierced my freshman year of college, during Thanksgiving break. They got infected during finals, so out they came and they didn't get re-pierced until Ken was 3. I told myself if I couldn't get pregnant, I'd get my ears pierced. That time they didn't get infected and they are still pierced.
18. First celebrity crush?
Art Garfunkle. I failed an algebra test in eighth grade because I was daydreaming about my future life with Art.
19. First crush?
I remember having a crush on Steve in fifth grade. We were learning to square dance and I remember being so thrilled when he was my partner. My heart fluttered!
20. First TRUE love?
Jim, the high school sophomore who I dated my senior year. I got contacts the middle of that year and it truly transformed my look. He noticed me before I got contacts and liked me. I thought that said a lot about his character. He was a charmer. He's a doctor now. A gynocologist. Figures. He always liked women!
21. First time you smoked a cigarette?
I was five. A bunch of the neighborhood kids found the cigarettes in a neighbor's garage - including the holder. We thought we were oh so cool until a passing salesman found us and then reported us to my mom! We caught hell for that. I didn't try another until I was 16 and gagged on the first puff. That was the last time I smoked.
22. First pet?
Sam. The bestest cat in the whole world. Honestly. Sam was the kind of cat that even people who swore they hated cats liked. Sam was so cool. We had a fish tank. He'd sit and watch the fish for hours. If one would jump out of the tank, he'd meow and get someone to put the fish back in the water. Once we had a bird fall through the chimney. He got help so that the bird wouldn't die. He used to help our female cat "nurse" her kittens, giving her a break. He was such a love. When I went away to college he was very sad. My mom told him I was coming home a few days before my first break. He sat by the window and waiting for me until I came home. I would have taken him to college with me if I could have gotten away with it. He died prematurely at age 14, my senior year of college. My parents and I had to take him to the vet to be put down during Christmas break. I cried my heart out.

Is there a blog thing called: Things I didn't know about my own daughter?
I didn't know you paid for that prom date.(or I don't remember) Maybe that drambui is what your little brother meant when he said you were really "baaaad" and fooled us into thinking you were good..
