I survived yesterday, as did everyone else in the school.  Less than half the kids showed up, so the district is going to try to get a waver from the state.  You're supposed to have 65% in attendance for the day to count.  If they don't count it, it'll mean Saturday school and do you really think 65% of the students will attend that?  I don't either.

I've been spring cleaning.  I'm working on my 10th garbage bag of stuff for goodwill.  I list everything so I can take it as a charity deduction.  Lots of clothes that I don't wear anymore.  And some of Dave's.  Who caught sight of a sweater I think he's worn once in the 20 years he's had it and thought about taking it out of the bag.  He didn't.  But then he said, "I'd better check out what else you've got in there".  I told him he'd better not and he didn't.  We all have too much stuff.

    More pictures.

Captain Tom, with a fur of a non-native rat-like animal that Louisiana pays money if you turn them in.  Maybe I'll think of it's name in a bit.  Captain Tom was quite the character and hosted a very interesting swamp tour.

This is a blue crab that was one of many in the trap he brought up when we passed it.  Too bad he didn't cook up a mess for us!

This is Roxie the Racoon, who was abandoned as an infant and who is under the care and tutelage of Captain Tom's wife.  They are trying to get her wild again.  Good luck with that!

A last camile flower.  Those don't grow in these parts!

The home of Nicholas Cage.  And no, I didn't get to see him.  I gather it's just one of his homes.

Some of New Orleans finest, hanging around outside the convention center the last full day we were there.  I have no idea why.

Next blog, I'll post pictures of my red hat tea.

  • Thanks for your comment on my site and for letting me continue to enjoy this trip with you.

  • Don't ever let your husband know when you throw things out.

      You know dad.

I sneak things out and he never misses them.  He may ask after several years.."Whatever happened to that.....(you fill in the blank) and I'll reply, "Oh my, I haven't seen that for years ... I guess it got lost somewhere" (lol)  I don't think he ever missed the Nehru jacket that was in his closet for 20 years.!

And Mike almost disowned me, (his own mother) for throwing out those shoes that were sitting in a pile and that I had begged and pleaded for him to put away....for months...years!!!!  I had told him I was going to throw them away if he didn't put them away and I told him that several hundred times and he kept saying he would do it....Finally I kept my word.

  • sorry I haven't been around...I've been very sick but I'm finally getting better...((HUGS))

  • Enjoyed catching up and seeing the rest of the pics and taking the tour of N.O. with you. It looks as if it is renewing itself quite nicely from the ooks of the crowds. I saw those animals on a tv show and can't remember what they are either, but know people eat them. I'm sure they taste like chicken--lol.

Thanks for the comments about my dd's wedding. It was truly a beauful event and ceremony, which I cried through.   Happy/sad tears. Guess they are still in Belize for a day or two more. We did hear they made it via email. I'll post more pics later. I have a video of their 1st dance, which, for some reason I taped sideways. Wish I knew how to rotate it, but don't even know if thats possible.

It's amazing how much stuff accumulates isn't it? I just went through my closet a few weeks ago and did the donation thing to G.W. myself. Had the time to do it finally-now I have room for more stuff--lol.

Glad the kids have moved into their new place! *hugs*

  • I think the New Orleans police on horseback take them out for regular training, being used to large groups of people and working on the street.  I know they are used a lot during Mardi Gras to get the crowds off the streets when it is over.

RYC, yes, I am going to be a step great-grandmother!   I am hardly used to being a step grandmother and now this!  LOL   And yes, now that Spring has finally arrived in our area, we should have lunch again and catch up...before either of us has a new baby to cuddle.

  • I never let Homer know what I'm giving away.  Nor do I let him go to Goodwill with me. We end up bringing back more than we took.

  • Why were so many out of school?

I love the pictures of NO... so pretty!

I never thought to take my goodwill donations as a deduction... have to remember that!

  • @beadbrat - Those 10 bags came to over $800 according to the scale that goodwill gives.  It's not chump change!  If you can take deductions, it's definately the way to go!
